September 2005 - I climbed the
second highest peak in the UK - Snowdon (1,085 m in the North Wales).
FYI: UK's highest peak is Ben Nevis (1,344 m in Scotland), England's highest peak is Scafell (978 m). If you would like to
visit Snowdonia as I did, take a train to Bangor and then a bus Nr. 85 to Llanberis, which is a small village just underneath
the Snowdon mountain. Apart from that trip I am looking forward to go on holidays back to the Czech Rep. to
visit places and people that are close so my heart :-)
August 2005 - The time has come
to explore Liverpool's surroundings. I went to the Chester ZOO and it's Blue Planet Aquarium and I explored
a West Kirby coastline. I went to the Isle of Man to see some decent
piece of nature combined with some castles and beaches. Furthermore I spent some money on clothes and DVDs...
July 2005 - My third month in the UK. I am still working as a barman
for the same company at the same airport. I only changed the bar I work at. Right now it is a DayTripper Bar on the airside
of the airport. I am the only foreigner between all English people there, which is cool (no Polish, no Slovaks...). I can
pick up more English from them... Otherwise I've been walking along the coastline and e.g. the Ainsdale beach was quite nice
(this beach has been listed as one of the top ten beaches in the UK). I have seen there sports such us kiteboarding, landboarding,
kitesurfing and buggying for the first time in my life and I have to try it on, of course...
June 2005 - After surviving first couple of weeks in the UK, we are settled
down a bit. First accommodation after arriving to Liverpool was The International Inn youth hostel, 4 South Hunter Street.
After 4 days we found a room to stay in a shared house in 264 Houlton street, in a part of Liverpool called Kensington and
than we moved to a quite expensive flat on 53 Everton Road. My working possition has changed as well. Right now I work at
the Estuary Bar at Liverpool airport as a bartender. Liverpool is simply 'the city of the Beatles'. There's something
more to it. You can find here the biggest Anglican cathedral of the world, the deep brown waters of the Mersey River and a
sea-coast is nearby. Liverpool is a quite famous city. It is the admin centre for the county of Merseyside. It also has a
renowned University. Liverpool is also known for its football teams - Liverpool FC and Everton FC and it's night-life.
May 2005 - Staying in ENGLAND
I
am in the UK as I mentioned bellow, working in O'Briens Irish Coffee & Sandwich Bar in Liverpool (John Lennon Airport,
South Terminal, Liverpool, L24 1YD, Tel: +441519071011) I am making here mostly hot drinks such us Americano (Black
Coffee), Espresso, Macchiato, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, Hot Chocolate and apart from that selling cold drings and handcut
sandwiches.
April 2005 - The Decision To Go
It is time for me to do same
changes. I am going to leave Czech Rep. for a while and go to work to England. I have to drop everything - to leave my office
job in Citibank in Prague and to pack away my possessions - to sell my car, lap-top., furniture, to leave a nice and comfortable
flat and to fix a departure date, which is the hardest step apart from a finding job and accommodation abroad. I look upon
a job abroad, which I planned since December 2004, as a way to explore other cultures, to improve my English, as a means of
satisfying my curiosity about whether there is any truth in the clichés about other nationalities, to meet different people,
to see differet places. Moreover it is the best way to shake off the boredom which comes with routines of everyday life. The
rest seems to look after itself. As long as I have enough motivation, together with some money, I am all set to have a great
time abroad. I am motivated not only by a desire to earn more money than in the Czech Rep., but by a craving for new and different
experiences, and by a conviction that not all events which make up one's life need to be career-furthering or success-orientated.
It is not only students, school-leavers and people on the dole who enjoy the chance to travel and work abroad, but also a
large number of people with a profession which they were happy to abandon temporarily, which is my case. Almost a year I was
waiting for something new to turn up. Without much invention from my side nothing appeared of course. I was convinced the
situation with findig a job abroad was hopeless and I thought I will always lack the necessary documents to work abroad. I
heard stories about many difficulties with the opening of bank accounts abroad, which is an obligation when applying for a
job abroad. Without an open bank account you can not start off a job in England. At the end, in February 2005, I attended
a Job Fair with British employers and I finally succeded at getting a job at the Liverpool John Lennon Airport. The employer
guarantee a smooth account opening, getting a insurance number for tax purposes and accommodation. The job possition to start
off by, that I was promised to get, is supposed to be a bartender. So, let's see what it is going to look like when I get
there...
